Dr. Pou has earned a stellar reputation for his expertise, experience, patient outcomes, and collaborative approach to care in the Shenandoah Valley and beyond. He takes pride in leading a state-of-the-art center that prioritizes quality, comfort, and safety, focusing on delivering exceptional care to each patient, one at a time.
A highly distinguished physician, Dr. Pou holds the title of Fellow of the American College of Gastroenterology (FACG), an honor reserved for those who demonstrate extraordinary achievement and dedication in gastroenterology. This prestigious designation reflects his significant professional accomplishments, superior competence, and fulfillment of the rigorous standards set by the ACG. He has also been invited to join other honorary organizations recognizing his contributions to the field.
Dr. Pou is board certified by the American Board of Internal Medicine in both Internal Medicine (2003) and Gastroenterology (2007, 2017). He earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology from Bridgewater College in Virginia and his medical degree from the Ponce School of Medicine, an LCME-accredited institution.
During his training, Dr. Pou completed an internship and residency in internal medicine at a Yale School of Medicine-affiliated hospital, where he gained recognition from the American College of Physicians for his management of a complex case involving overlap syndrome with autoimmune hepatitis and primary biliary cirrhosis. His early diagnosis and care extended his patient’s life significantly, showcasing his keen diagnostic skills and dedication to patient outcomes.
Dr. Pou’s advanced fellowship training in gastroenterology and hepatology encompassed three years at high-volume centers, including the Department of Veterans Affairs, a major medical center, and a transplant center in San Juan, Puerto Rico. This intensive program included specialized rotations and collaboration with the liver transplant center and gastroenterology program at the Medical College of Virginia and McGuire Veterans Hospital.
In 2003, Dr. Pou became one of the first hospitalists at Rockingham Memorial Hospital in Virginia and later played a key role in establishing the gastroenterology program at Augusta Medical Center in Fishersville, Virginia. His dedication extends beyond patient care, as he also has interest in clinical research and has published abstracts in national medical conferences.
He is a member of numerous professional organizations—including the American College of Gastroenterology, the American Gastroenterological Association, and the American Society for Gastrointestinal Endoscopy.

Dr. Pou remains deeply committed to advancing his field. His practice, Shenandoah Valley Gastroenterology Center, PLLC, is accredited by the Accreditation Association for Ambulatory Health Care (AAAHC), a reflection of its adherence to the highest standards of care and safety.
